Optimisation of carbon capture from flue gas from a Waste-to-Energy plant using surrogate modelling and global optimisation

The optimisation of Post Carbon Capture (PCC) from a Waste-to-Energy plant has been studied using Kriging surrogate models trained set rigorous process simulations. allow fast and efficient calculation model responses required for the operating parameters. Optimisation is performed Differential Evolution (DE) requiring vast amount function calculations (>1000) which would be extremely time consuming if done with simulation model. It found that meeting CO 2 removal efficiency 85% flue gas containing 12.6 mole % reboiler temperature limited to max. 120 °C, L/G ratio approx. 2.2 (kg/kg) optimal. This accompanied by stripper/regenerator pressure 1.85 bara, at lower bound, approach lean amine entering absorber 6.5 °C (to temperature), in L/R heat exchanger 5 °C. optimal rich loading 0.21 0.52 (mole /mole MEA).
